10

 Flora turned 10!
Flora ist 10!

I took these photos right before we left for ballet.

There was no time to celebrate with the whole family today because of Jonathan's work and Charlotte's college class in the morning/early afternoon and then everybody at ballet in the afternoon and evening.  The last children came home by 9:00 p.m.  We will celebrate her birthday on Friday!

This morning we found out that one of the girls I always drive to ballet on Tuesdays, had lost her home overnight in a fire!  Her laptop exploded and set her room and the house on fire.  She does not live in our village, but it was such a big fire that our fire truck had to help put it out, together with two other fire trucks.  It was a very sad day for everybody, but luckily, no lives were lost.  I did miss her in the car today, she is such a sweet girl.

Yesterday, I had a surprise visit of a long-time friend.  Charlotte used to clean house for her mother and to spend time with her, but the mother lives in an assistant-living place in Ohio now.  My friend lives in the Bahamas and seldom is in town.  (They still have a house here, though.)  Her two daughters and Jonathan and Charlotte were born in the same hospital in Indiana and her husband also went to the University of Notre Dame.  It was wonderful to have her here for a long chat, but it also prevented me from going through my First Holy Communion pictures to see which ones would be good ones to post.  So you will have to be patient.  But we did have a wonderful celebration with Godmother Ellen, Grandma, and Grandpa on Sunday.

  2. So much is happening! Happy Birthday to Flora and to you. She looks beautiful and confident and happy in the photos you took (and that's a very pretty ballet bun!). We wish all of you a wonderful celebration on Friday. I'm glad you had a nice visit with your long-time friend. Time goes so fast . . it's important to sit and talk about past and present goings-on with those who are dear to us :)

Your ballet friend's fire sounds frightening! I've never heard of a lap-top exploding. Have you? Thank goodness everyone was alright. xoxo

    1. Thanks so much! Charlotte made the bun :). Yes, my friend's oldest daughter is turning 29 soon. She was maybe 13 when we moved here. Time does go fast.

Jonathan told me that those batteries can explode in suitcases on airplanes. He thinks at least one airplane crashed because of a fire that was caused by such a laptop. My dad told me of newspaper reports about exploding phones. They were exploding in the pockets of the owners and injured them. That is scary! I did not know this could happen.

    1. Yes, I think the quality of the batteries has been gotten worse and worse over the years due to high demand and cheap production methods.

No, this time Charlotte did the bun :).
