Easter Monday/Ostermontag

Easter Monday is a national holiday in Germany, but not in this country.  Nevertheless, we had another yummy Easter breakfast.  We then all did different things in the morning.  Jonathan worked on some of his birthday (!) thank-you notes, Charlotte wrote a reply to a birthday sleepover party she wants to attend, and she also wrote a letter to one of her ballet friends (they exchange letters after class).  Miriam put two baskets of laundry away and folded one.  Veronika cried about her knee (she fell yesterday and scraped her knee badly), because she was afraid she wouldn't be able to visit her friend in the afternoon because of it.  I assured her that her friend would love to see her even with an injured knee and the crying finally stopped.  Flora kept telling me that she was hungry for Easter chocolate, but I informed her there would be no chocolate until teatime in the afternoon.  She later built some kind of castle with Jonathan.  I looked up the children's immunization records.  There are a few immunizations we would like to get this month, but I wasn't quite sure which ones they were (We are doing selective immunizations).  I also placed an order for new ballet tights (they seem to get holes more quickly recently), wrote a page about our family for a new directory of our Catholic homeschooling group, looked up the Live Education! curriculum to place an order, and  tried to bring some order into our house again after Easter.  In the afternoon, Jonathan and Charlotte had ballet, Miriam went on a hike with three friends to celebrate the birthday of one of them (they found frog's eggs), and Veronika went to play with her friend (in spite of her insured knee).  Everybody had a lovely time.  Tomorrow we were supposed to participate in a birding class up at the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, but the weather is not going to be very inviting and there is no shelter, so we will skip the class.  We will go to a different birding sanctuary, though, up close to Rochester, called Braddock Bay later this month or early next month.  Maybe I should mention our current read-aloud: Louis Braille by Jakob Streit.  Everybody is enjoying the book a lot, but I don't think that the book has been translated into English.  Today is the fourth day of the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

  2. Happy Easter; full day Eva. My 8yo also enjoys writing letters with her friends. I encourage it because she uses proper form and then will address the envelopes. It is costing us stamps but mailing them is the fun part for her. Those bird sanctuaries look interesting too. Hope you'll post when you finally get to go ; )

    1. Happy Easter to you, Jenny. That's great that your daughter is also a letter writer. I'm afraid it's becoming more and more a dying art.

We went last year to the Iroquois Sanctuary and you can see a few pictures we took here. We are close to Canada and birds like to stop on their migrating routes around here to breed. It's an exiting place for birding.
