Michaelmas/Michaeli

For our Michaelmas celebration, we again made a Harvest Loaf like last year.  We also made butter, in the form of an angel.  Veronika has been doing Wee Folk's Autumn Kindergarten Curriculum with me, which includes butter making after reading the picture book Green Grass and White Milk (the newer version is called Milk: From Cow to Carton).

"Once there was a fair and beautiful land.  It was difficult to say whether the hills were fairer than the valleys, or whether the plains were more beautiful than the forests, but the people who lived there were happy and busy and their faces shone as they worked so that the whole land glowed with a bright light." (from: All Year Round)

(entnommen aus: All Year Round)

"But the time came when darkness fell upon this land, for through its valleys writhed a mighty dragon, foaming and lashing his tail." (from All Year Round)

(entnommen aus: All Year Round)

We also went to participate in the Michaelmas celebration at the Waldorf school in the area.  They had a play, a eurythmy performance, and singing.

Our seasonal table received a new look.  Unser Jahreszeitentisch hat ein neues Gesicht erhalten.

Of course, we ended our day with the prayer to St. Michael.

  5. The book is quite nice, it doesn't have too much technical information and still keeps some awe for the child.

  6. Dorina, the first comment didn't come through, so I'm glad you sent it again. Flora was very impressed by the yeast mixture (dragon) because at the beginning I had it in a bowl that was too small. When it was about to bubble over, I said that the dragon was about to crawl onto the table and that we better had to get a bigger bowl. She still talks about this almost every day :).
