North Star/Nordstern

For our astronomy studies, Jonathan had to read about the north star and its major role for the early navigators in finding their latitude.  Tonight we actually had a beautiful sky and went outside to find the north star.  We must have looked very strange (everybody looking at the stars) because a car stopped to ask if we were okay.  Two books that have been very helpful for our stargazing are

Find the Constellations or the shorter version
(Know the Stars) and Night Sky: A Field Guide to the Constellations.  Jonathan also learned about the four circles of latitude.

Charlotte has been drawing triangles.  In addition to geometry she is working in Key to Decimals, Calculadder, and Primary Mathematics 5A daily.

















Miriam copied the 8 x table.

With Veronika I read Woody, Hazel and Little Pip. 

Für unsere Himmelskundeepoche mußte Jonathan sich mit dem Nordstern und dessen Aufgabe bei den ersten Seefahren in bezug auf die Breitengrade und die Position des Schiffes beschäftigen.  Da wir heute eine klare Sternennacht hatten, sind wir alle rausgegangen, um den Nordstern zu suchen und zu finden.  Wir müssen recht lustig ausgesehen haben, da ein Auto angehalten hat und gefragt hat, ob wir Hilfe bräuchten.  Zwei Bücher, die uns bei der Sterndeutung gute Dienste leisten sind Zwilling, Stier und Großer Bär: Sternbilder erkennen auf den ersten Blick und Night Sky: A Field Guide to the Constellations.  Jonathan hat auch die verschiedenen Breitenkreise kennengelernt.  Charlotte hat ein schönes Bild mit Dreiecken gemalt.  Neben Geometrie arbeitet sie täglich in Key to Decimals, Calculadder 4 Advanced Division, Estimation, Basic Fractions, Decimals und Primary Mathematics 5A.  Miriam hat das 8er Einmaleins abgeschrieben.  Mit Veronika habe ich Schabernack im Wichtelwald gelesen.
