Mission /Weltraumreise

Jonathan and his daddy have been preparing themselves for the mission which takes place on Tuesday.  I've talked about it before here.  He's been making "constellation cups," which tie in very nicely with our astronomy studies this year.  You only need styrofoam cups, black construction paper, and small constellation patterns. Jonathan used a needle to make holes in the construction paper, following the pattern of a particular constellation.  He then taped the paper across the cup.  This is what they look like.

He also made a spectroscope, which ties in with our physics studies this year.

We also watched a spider and her spiderweb today.

  2. Ja, solch eine tolle Idee! Das werde ich meiner Tochter zeigen.

    Mal auf English.

Here is a fun project for your kids. Take black or dark blue construction paper and draw some simple designs on it. Then, place the paper on a folded up kitchen towel and hand the children toothpics. The round pics with pointy tip are most suited for this project. Have them follow the outlines you drew by poking through the paper with their toothpics. Once done, hang the finished project on a window. The design should be clearly visible through the small perforations. This is a fun way to practise fine motor skills.

Also, it was my 30 year old thermostat that was broken, not the blower. Thank goodness. He also recharged our a/c and cleaned it and we have air conditioning once again. Yipee! So, between Friday and today I paid about $600 total in services including $ 150 for the thermostat. But at least we aren't sticky hot anymore.

OK. nice talking with you. Gotta go now and start preparing supper. Adee!

  4. Marlis, thanks for the interesting project. I think even my five year old would enjoy that!

I'm glad it's cool again at your place. I didn't know Iowa could get so hot.
