Spring?Frühling?

Well, it does not feel like spring, it was cold today, it barely reached 35 degrees, so we read a picture book about spring!  It was my turn to drive the girls to ballet today (Tuesday is my day) and we saw a lot of Canadian geese that were resting in the fields.  They at least must think that spring is coming.  Here is a picture of a sunrise from the other day.  And now I need to work on an exam for my German 101 class tomorrow.

Es fühlt sich wahrhaftig nicht wie Frühling an und es war nur knapp über Null heute.  Daher haben wir ein schönes Frühlingsbuch gelesen, um uns davon zu überzeugen, daß der Frühling heute Einzug gehalten hat.  Heute mußte ich, wie jeden Dienstag, Ballettänzerinnen zum Ballett fahren.  Auf der Fahrt haben wir kanadische Wildgänse gesehen, die wieder in den Norden ziehen, ein Zeichen für den Frühling.  Hier ist noch ein Foto von einem Sonnenaufgang neulich.  Jetzt muß ich eine Klausur für meine Studenten morgen vorbereiten.

Sunday Walk/Sonntagsspaziergang

The children "borrowed" my camera to take ballet photos, so I did not get a chance to take many new photos.  What have we been doing?  There was regular schoolwork and also the musical Oklahoma!, Peter, Charlotte, Miriam, and Veronika went to.  The voice majors and choir members of our college performed it.  And today, we went for a walk because the sun was out, which is a rare occurrence these days.  We also had our first rehearsal for the ballet "Peter and the Wolf." 

Die Kinder haben meinen Fotoapparat für Ballettfotos ausgeliehen, daher konnte ich in letzter Zeit nicht viele Fotos machen  Was haben wir so gemacht?   Unsere normale Schularbeit natürlich und dann am Samstag gab es das Musical Oklahoma!, bei dem Peter mit Charlotte, Miriam und Veronika waren.  Es war eine Aufführung der Gesangstudenten und des Chores.  Es gab auch die ersten Proben des Balletts "Peter und der Wolf".

We got a free Schuster's Bible History at our library.  (We already own it, but the new copy is in much better shape than ours).  Flora is trying to read some of it although this is a book for sixth graders.  She found a few words she could read and was very happy.    

Wir haben eine kostenlose (zum Mitnehmen, nicht Ausleihen) bekannte Kinderbibel bei der Bücherei gefunden.  Flora versucht, ein wenig darin zu lesen, auch wenn das Buch für die 6. Klasse ist.  Sie hat auch Wörter gefunden, die sie lesen kann, was sie ganz glücklich gemacht hat.

And now it is Monday and the bushes have icicles and there is another winter weather advisory with snow in the forecast.  And it is my turn to drive some dancers tomorrow.  As Jenna, one of the girls pointed out: It always is gray on Tuesdays and snows . . . .

Und jetzt haben wir wieder Montag, die Büsche haben Eiszapfen, und die Wettervorhersage warnt vor Schnee und schlechten Straßen.  Und ich muß morgen die Ballettmädchen fahren!  Jenna, ein Mädchen, das ich immer fahre, hat ganz treffend festgestellt: Es ist immer grau dienstags und schneit . . .

 Miriam and Veronika made a Swedish meal today: Savoy cabbage with bacon and dill butter served with creamed potatoes.

Mehr Leute und Katzen

Jonathan and Charlotte participated in a field trip with a college class on Islam.  It was organized by our neighbor, who teaches this class.  They went to the mosque in Rochester and participated in the Friday worship there.  The women all had to sit separately from the men and wear head coverings.  They also had a talk with one of the leaders of the center.  They both thought that the visit was very interesting and educational. 

Jonathan und Charlotte haben an einem Ausflug mit einem Collegekurs über den Islam teilgenommen.  Unser Nachbar unterrichtet diesen Kurs und hat die beiden mitgenommen.  Sie sind zur Moschee in Rochester gefahren und haben dort an einem Gottesdienst teilgenommen.  Die Studentinnen mußten alle ihre Köpfe mit einem Tuch bedecken und separat von den Studenten sitzen.  Anschließend haben sie sich mit einem Leiter des Zentrums getroffen.  Beide Kinder fanden diesen Ausflug sehr interessant and lehrreich.

Tonight: Attending a choir concert.  Two of my current German students were singing with the choir.   They sang two German hymns, one was "Nun danket alle Gott."

Chorkonzert des Collegechors.  Zwei meiner Studenten haben mitgesungen.  Es gab zwei deutsche Kirchenlieder, und eins davon war "Nun danket alle Gott."

Tomorrow, daylight savings time will start, hard to believe: It is snowing right now and quite cold.  We will also have an early St. Patrick's Day party at church.  I will have to make a salad for that one.  

Morgen beginnt hier die Sommerzeit: Das ist so verrückt, weil es draußen schneit und sehr kalt ist.  Außerdem gibt es morgen eine vorgezogene St. Patricktagsfeier in der Kirche, für die ich einen Salat machen muß.
