We celebrated our 30th German wedding anniversary on Monday. Miriam had picked flowers for breakfast. Our American anniversary was in May, but we were all sick with some type of virus.
Wir haben am Montag unseren 30. deutschen Hochzeitstag gefeiert. Miriam hat zum Frühstück Blumen gepflückt. Unser amerikanischer Tag war im Mai, aber da hatten wir alle einen grippalen Infekt.
In the morning, I called my father and talked to him. He has a new phone and the phone call was wonderful! After lunch, we drove to the bookstore in Perry. Peter had left a gift certificate for us there.
Am Vormittag habe ich meinen Vater angerufen. Er hat jetzt ein neues Telefon und wir haben uns so nett unterhalten. Nach dem Mittagessen sind wir in einen Buchladen gefahren, wo Peter einen Gutschein für uns deponiert hatte.
We had a cup of coffee and looked at the books.
Wir haben eine Tasse Kaffee getrunken und die Bücher angeschaut.
In the evening, Veronika, Jonathan, and Peter called. Charlotte was at work, and Flora is doing her camp. They were not able to call. Veronika told us about the visit to a county fair, the dresses the fashion department contributed, and also her fireworks for July 4th. Her department won a prize for the dresses. Jonathan reported about his new job in Charlottesville.
Abends haben dann noch Veronika, Jonathan und Peter angerufen. Charlotte mußte arbeiten und Flora macht ja ihr Ferienlager, also konnten sie nicht anrufen. Veronika hat uns von einer Landwirtschaftsausstellung erzählt, wo u. a. auch Kleider ausgestellt worden sind, die sie mit ihren Kommilitoninnen genäht hat. Sie haben Preise dafür gewonnen. Sie hat auch vom Feuerwerk vom Unabhängigkeitstag erzählt. Jonathan hat uns von seiner neuen Stelle bei einem Richter in Charlottesville berichtet.

Peter war in dem Heimatort von Willa Cather in Nebraska. Von dem Ausflug hat er schicke Fotos und Berichte geschickt. Bei Substack hat er auch einiges dazu hochgeladen.
Miriam and I are sitting here waiting for an emergency visit of the plumber: A waterpipe in the garage is leaking and spraying water all over the place. Of course this is happening when Peter is gone.
Miriam und ich sitzen hier und warten auf den Klempnernotdienst. Ein Wasserrohr in der Garage hat ein Leck und so wird Wasser überall hingesprüht. Natürlich passiert das, wenn Peter nicht da ist.
Herzlichen Glückwunsch zum Hochzeitstag. Ist immer fein, wenn man zwei Hochzeitstag hat. Haben wir ja auch. Einmal den standesamtlichen und einmal den kirchlichen.

DeleteAh, das ist ja interessant. Ich wusste nicht, das das geht. Wir hatten eine ökumenische, gilt auch doppelt. LOL
DeleteFür die deutschen Behörden war die altlutheranische Hochzeit die standesamtliche Trauung :). Peters Vater, der Pfarrer ist, hat uns getraut. Das war ganz praktisch, weil so die amerikanischen Verwandten in den USA feiern konnten und die deutschen in Deutschland. Nur meine Eltern waren auch bei der amerikanischen dabei, aber keine amerikanischen Verwandten in Deutschland.

Of course, Peter is now back and so there shouldn't be a problem :) Happy Anniversary to you both xoxo It was very thoughtful for him to leave the gift certificate. I'm envious that he was able to visit Willa Cather's house! This is a wonderful excuse for me to tell Greg that we need to drive cross country again. We would love to visit Willia Cather's house. How long of a drive was it for Peter? How is Jonathan liking his job and Charlottesville? Congrats to Veronika and her department on the prize they won :)
ReplyDeleteRight, as soon as he is back, there are no problems anymore. The plumber did a good job, came quite quickly, and was friendly. For an emergency call, he did not even charge so much.
DeleteThanks for your good wishes. The Willa Cather village tour was quite interesting. He did enjoy it a lot. It was about 3.5 hours one way from Atchison. He also saw an old pony express station on the way, run by a German!
I think he is enjoying it. There are four young lawyers working for the same judge. Lots of the cases require strict confidence so he cannot talk about them. He still has his apartment in D.C. and is slowly moving his belongings to Charlottesville. He has been shopping at Ikea a lot.
I think Veronika was very happy :).
Yes, Red Cloud sounds very interesting, and a pony express station would be fun to see.

Peter only walked on the grounds of the pony express station because by the time he got there, it was already closed. Yes, I think he getting to see a new side of law.
