Readings/Lesematerial

I still have pictures to share from our Sunday visit of Kenwood House, another one of our favorite spots, but for now I will tell you what we have been reading.  After all, most of our time is spent on ordinary things: learning, teaching, and household chores.  I have also started planning Flora's next school year.  Next week I have to send off her third quarterly report and let the school district know which standardized test she will be taking.  We will do Seton's CAT test again.  This week, I only have Flora here for teaching because Veronika is doing a ballet intensive all week.  She had her last online French class last night and has finished it successfully.

I made quince compote.

  1. It' nice to see a few home photos :) and congrats to Veronika for completing her French class. You've been reading so many interesting books. I was just discussing with Greg that I've never read The House of the Seven Gables. He's currently reading The Scarlet Letter.

    1. I always feel silly taking photos of these London flats, but I am glad you like them. I hope Veronika will be able to do some more French in the future, but it all depends on what college she chooses. Ah, I read "The Scarlet Letter" when I was at college in Germany. I do not remember if any of the girls read it. I do like "The House of the Seven Gables." This is my second or third time reading it and there are new things each time and lots of historical/political remarks. The narrator is also quite funny in the later part of the book.

    2. Ah! I'll have to let you know how we do with reading it. We decided to do so together.

    3. That will be fun! And then you have to go and visit the house.

    4. Yes! I'm enjoying it so far. It's very good. I find it fascinating that it's set in Salem and that Nathaniel Hawthorne was born there. Greg's family came to Salisbury, Massachusetts in 1636. A distant cousin researched the family history and discovered that his original ancestor was involved with signing a petition around that time to release a neighbor from jail as she had been accused of being a witch. Isn't that interesting?!
I would also like to visit Concord. Louisa May Alcott has always been one of my favorite writers.

    1. I cooked the quinces with lemon juice, cinnamon, star anise, ginger, water, cardamom, and sugar. You can eat it with yogurt or add some cream to it, if you do not want to eat it on its own.
