Towards the end of our London stay, we try to get to the coast. On Friday, we went to Broadstairs.
On the way: Rochester Castle
Auf der Hinfahrt: Burg Rochester

It was a cold and grey day, but the clouds left later.
Viking Bay: The Vikings landed here.
Wikingerbucht: Die Wikinger sind hier gelandet.
We had lunch here.
Hier haben wir zu Mittag gegessen.
Supposedly, Charles Dickens stabled his horse here.
Angeblich hatte Charles Dickens heir ein Pferd im Stall.
The Dickens House: Charles Dickens visited Broadstairs many times and worked on many of his novels here.
This was very funny! So many houses had signs that Dickens had lived there, but this one says the opposite.
This is the oldest building in town, a very old chapel. Read more about here.
The sun is out!
Die Sonne ist da!
This is another interesting tidbit: When Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo in 1850, the news of the British victory came to land right here. Read more about here.

Yay! The sun came out :) That's a great story about Henry Percy and the British victory at Waterloo. I love seeing the stone and mosaic work, and the beach is beautiful. So many wonderful things to see at Broadstairs . . the quaint chapel, pretty houses, seagulls, lots of history . . your photos are lovely :)
ReplyDeleteThe sun made a big difference. So much history in one place. I thought it was sad that the old chapel is not there anymore. I bet that in the summer Broadstairs is not so pleasant anymore, but when we were there, there were more locals than tourists.
DeleteThat makes for a nice visit :)
DeleteSuch a lovely day 💕. I’m sad we didn’t manage to meet up but here’s hoping that next time you visit we can. Love to you all San xxx
ReplyDeleteIt was wonderful to be able to go to the coast. Too bad that you are so far away from London. Let's hope that it will work out in three years.
