Happy New Year/Frohes neues Jahr

It is still cold, but we did reach 2018!  We have had a frostbite weather warning, which was new to us!  We were not supposed to go out for more than 30 minutes today in order to avoid frostbite.  And then we got the news that our natural gas company had a supply problem and we should turn our heat down by five degrees!  Apparently, some natural gas supply fields in PA were having a problem.  I hope they will fix this soon because it is almost impossible to turn down the heat even one degree.  And of course, our hot water pipes are still frozen.

Wir machen Marzipanferkel für das neue Jahr.

Es ist immer noch kalt, aber wir haben das Jahr 2018 erreicht.  Wir hatten heute eine "Frostbeulen" Wetterwarnung.  Wir sollten nicht länger als 30 Minuten draußen sein, um Frostbeulen zu vermeiden.  Das war für uns eine neue Art von Warnung.  Dann kam auch noch die Nachricht, daß unser Gaslieferant ein Problem hatte und ganz West-New York solle doch bitte die Thermostate um fünf Grad runterstellen!  Bei dieser Kälte ist das kaum möglich.  Irgendwo in Pennsylvania, wo unser Gas herkommt, gibt es ein Problem.  Hoffentlich wird das bald gelöst.  Die Wasserrohre sind auch noch gefroren.
