Bright Star

We had a quiet day today.  Quiet here means that we do not go places that involves public transportation.  This is not quite true for all of us today, but for most of us.  We all did our schoolwork in the morning (Jonathan mainly chemistry and math, Charlotte math, Latin, and English, Miriam is working on a European geography main lesson, Veronika is working on Botany and used beeswax to make a seaweed, and Flora is working on phonics, right now on long vowel sound teams for her main lesson.)  In the afternoon, we walked to a grocery store and the post office.  It was quite cold today.  In the evening, we all went separate ways: Peter, Veronika, and Flora attended the Stations of the Cross at the local church.  The last two Fridays we attended their Stations, each time helping out with the readings and/or carrying the cross from station to station.  Afterwards, they met with the students and Peter returned some papers.  Miriam and I went to watch Bright Star at a local bookstore.  After all, we do not live far from Keats's house so we thought we should go and see the movie.  Also, I have seen "The Piano" and "An Angel at My Table" by the same director and have enjoyed both movies, although that was over 20 years ago.  Jonathan and Charlotte went to their ballet class, so those two did use public transportation.  And we also did some homeschooling in the afternoon and I spent some time grading quizzes and exams taken by my German students.  And then there were e-mails with students and other college related "stuff."  My personal e-mail account is completely swamped right now and I have no idea who needs an e-mail and who does not.  At least I am pretty much on top of my college e-mails.    

Heute war ein ruhiger Tag.  Ruhig bedeuter, daß wir keine Ausflüge machen, bei denen man öffentliche Verkehrsmittel braucht.  Fast alle sind heute nur zu Fuß gegangen.  Am Vormittag haben wir unsere kleine Schule abgehalten.  Jonathan hat vor allen Dingen Mathe und Chemie, Charlotte Latein, Englisch und Mathe, Miriam eurpäische Geographie als Hauptepoche, Veronika Botanik als Hauptepoche (sie hat aus Bienenwachs Seetang geformt) gemacht, und Flora hat phonetische Vokalpaare für Englisch in ihr Epochenheft geschrieben.  Nachmittags waren wir kurz einkaufen und bei der Post.  Am Abend sind wir dann verschiedenen Aktivitäten nachgegangen: Peter, Veronika und Flora waren bei der Kreuzwegandacht.  Wir waren dort jetzt schon dreimal, jedes Mal haben wir das Kreuz von Station getragen und/oder Text zur Andacht vorgelesen.  Danach haben sie den Studenten ihre Hausarbeiten gebracht.  Jonathan und Charlotte haben dann doch die U-Bahn benutzt, weil sie zur Ballettstunde gefahren sind.  Miriam und ich haben den Film "Bright Star" in einem Buchladen in der Nähe gesehen.  Da wir ja in der Nähe von Keats' Haus wohnen, war dieser Film eine gute Idee.  Ich habe auch schon zwei andere Filme der Regisseurin gesehen: "Ein Engel an meiner Tafel" und "Das Piano" und beide haben mir gut gefallen, aber das war vor über 20 Jahren.  Wir haben auch ein wenig Schule am Nachmittag gemacht und ich habe Zeit mit meinen Deutschstudenten verbracht (Korrekturen).  Meine Collegeemail brauchte auch meine Aufmerksamkeit, doch die private Email ist im Moment hoffnungslos unbeantwortet.  

Tomorrow, we will see Chanda and Morgana again.  We went to the Foundling Museum with Morgana two weeks ago.  Here are a few pictures from our visit then.  

Morgen sehen wir Chanda und Morgana wieder.  Mit Morgana waren wir vor zwei Wochen im Findelkind Museum.  Hier sind Fotos davon.

 Händel: Flora is listening in a special listening chair.  The museum has some Händel music because Händel was one of the supporters of the Foundling Hospital.

Händel: Flora hört in einem Sessel mit Lautsprechern zu.  Das Museum hat viele Noten von Händel, da Händel das Findelkindkrankenhaus mit unterstützt hat.

 Teatime; Morgana and Jonathan tried their French on each other before going back to the safer German or English.

Kaffeetrinken: Morgana und Jonathan haben ihr Französisch miteinander ausprobiert, doch Deutsch und natürlich Englisch waren dann doch die sichereren Sprachen.
