Jewish Holidays/Jüdische Feiertage

As part of Miriam's subjects for third grade, we will be studying the Old Testament.  We are also following the Jewish Year.  So far we have learned about two holidays: Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement.  We've been enjoying two picture books: On Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur and Days of Awe.  The first one gives a short description of the holidays and the second one has stories for each day.  We also listened to the sound of a shofar online.  When you go here, you can find several good videos about the holidays.

Ein Teil von Miriams Unterrichtsinhalten für die 3. Klasse ist das Studium des Alten Testamentes.  Wir verfolgen auch das jüdische Jahr.  Bisher haben wir uns mit Rosch ha-Schanah, dem jüdischen Neujahrsfest, und Jom Kippur, dem jüdischen Versöhnungsfest, beschäftigt.  Dazu gab es zwei schöne Bücher aus der Bücherei: Days of Awe, eine Geschichtensammlung zu den beiden Festen, und On Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.  Einige lehrreiche Videos dazu kann man auf dieser amerikanischen Seite finden.  Darunter waren auch einige, die den Klang des Schofarhorns vorführen.  

We are enjoying beautiful autumn days.  Miriam and Veronika have found a new favorite reading spot.
Wir haben im Moment schöne warme Herbsttage.  Miriam und Veronika haben sich einen neuen Lieblingsleseort erkoren.  

Flora got stung by a bee today, the very first time for her.  I immediately gave her apis and cut an onion in half to put on the sting.  It worked wonders, you can't see the sting at all anymore!  I'm highly allergic to bee stings so I was glad that we didn't get a bad reaction.

Flora ist heute zum ersten Mal von einer Biene gestochen worden.  Ich habe ihr sofort das homöopathische Mittel Apis gegeben und eine halbierte Zwiebel auf die Stichstelle gehalten.  Ich bin froh, daß sie nicht so allergisch wie ich gegen Bienenstiche ist.  Die Mittel haben wunderbar geholfen, man kann die Stelle nicht mehr sehen.
