Dreidel

Dreidels are part of Chanukah.  We found very pretty ones at Maple Landmark Woodcraft.  And three girls played, and played, and played, several hours!  It is such fun.  If you don't know how to play it, look here.

And then it was time to light the Chanukah candles.  Veronika really wanted to do this and so we decided to learn how this works.  We even watched a lighting ceremony in the White House from yesterday and also some outdoor ceremonies from last year.

Two great Chanukah books for today were The Miracle of the Potato Latkes and a story from The Power of Light from Isaac Bashevis Singer.

Zwei passende Bücher dazu waren heute The Miracle of the Potato Latkes und Chanukah Kindergeschichten von Isaac Bashevis Singer.

Maoz Tzur was our song for the day.
Maos Tzur war unser Lied des Tages.

And one last "candle festival."  We celebrated Charlotte's baptismal day with a special blessing, the lighting of her baptismal candle, and a present from her godmother.

    1. We sat for 30 minutes and read stories and played dreidel by the light of the candles. Then the candles were burnt to the end. Chanunkah fits right in with Advent :).

I am also behind with reading blogs and taking care of my e-mail. I hope all is well. I marveled at the Advent calendar you made.
