Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception/Hochfest der Unbefleckten Empfängnis

St Anne Conceiving the Virgin Mary by Jean Bellegambe. (Flemish painter c. 1480 - c. 1535)

Mary: The Mother of JesusTo celebrate this day we read Tomie dePaola's picture book Mary: The Mother of Jesus, which portrays all important stations of Mary's life with charming pictures and clear descriptions.  The whole family went to Mass at noon, Flora fell asleep during the sermon and snored very loud!

Jonathan and Charlotte later also accompanied Father to the nursing home and helped out at Mass there.  Afterwards Father was so kind and drove them home although it is just a ten minute walk.  We also visited the craft market again, where there were some new artisans today.

A Christmas MemoryAt home, while I was making supper, the children listened to Truman Capote's A Christmas Memory.

  1. How funny that Flora was snoring. I miss the days when my daughter would sleep through mass. Now she is a bit of a handful.

I love that Flemish painting of Saint Anne!

  4. I smiled when I read Flora's participation at Mass!!

Sadly we did not make mass, I've been nursing terrible back pain these past weeks and have been hobbling around. Today was slightly better though, so am hoping that things are settling.

Hope you have a lovely day today

  5. Thank you Alexandra, sometimes babies and toddlers can be blessing during Mass because they still fall asleep. Sometimes it can also mean that you have to sit in the cry room with them (as I did many times with Jonathan because he was afraid of loud music).

  6. Hello Dorina, yes I will share our crafts after Christmas, they are always simple and fast so everybody can participate. Last year we made soap.

  7. Hello San, I hope that your back will improve. I've always had luck with a good chiropractor and magnesium supplements for back pain. No fun right before Christmas! I'll keep you in my prayers.

Father noticed Flora too, because later, at the Mass at the nursing home, he mentioned her snoring to Jonathan and Charlotte. It's funny, on Tuesday she sang "God have mercy" in church so everybody could hear it, and she also said part of the words during the consecration.
