Math, Literature, and Lantern/Mathe, Literatur und Laterne

It's too late tonight to post very much, but we spent most of our afternoon raking leaves.  Our neighbors lent us a few rakes so each child had one and off we went.  Now we have piles of leaves on our lawn.   We have to carry the leaves away and dump them down a hill.

Yesterday a lady from church brought by a pick-up truck full of children's clothes for us to look through and sort out what we could use.  Our whole living-room was covered with clothes.  It took me almost all day to go through them.  Fortunately, Miriam and Charlotte had a well-child visit with our pediatrician, so my husband took them there and I only had to teach Jonathan.  Our living-room looks like a living-room again, and not like a consignment store.  We found a few nice things to keep, but quite a few things were the wrong size.

Charlotte practiced measuring angles and adding them up.  We also measured the length of her shadow at different times of the day as part of her lesson on Thales and his way of measuring the pyramids.

The Desperate Journey (Kelpies)The Boy with the Bronze Axe (Kelpies)Galileo & the StargazersJonathan started a new novel after finishing the German Pole Poppenspäler.  Now he's reading The Desperate Journey.  He read The Boy with the Bronze Axe before and liked it quite a bit.  We also started reading about Nicolaus Copernicus and listened to the CD Galileo & the Stargazers.  Miriam finished writing down all the times tables up to 12.  Now we have to continue memorizing them.  Veronika started on a lantern for Martinmas tomorrow.  We won't have our lantern walk until Sunday or Monday, though.  Little Flora is walking around singing "Laterne, Laterne, Sonne, Mond und Sterne." (My lantern, my lantern, shining far and near . . . ).  She got badly scratched by thorns in the yard today.  Charlotte was removing some thorny bushes and walked by Flora.  They scratched her accidentally on her face.  Poor little thing!

Jetzt liest er The Desperate Journey.

  2. Dear Eva,

Just a quick note to let you know that I've merged our home school blog with the main family one, it was becoming too time consuming to manage both!

I'm hoping you'll still want to encourage us on our journey and the URL for the blog is:

Hope Flora's sweet face is on the mend.

    Blessings to you all
    San xx

  5. Thank you, San. I will follow you! Flora's face is healing, she still talks about it, though.
