Visiting Jonathan, Charlotte, and Miriam/Besuch bei Jonathan, Charlotte und Miriam

Thursday and Friday, we drove up to the GCV&M to visit Jonathan, Charlotte, and Miriam.  It was a hot Thursday with a huge thunderstorm in the afternoon, but a much cooler Friday.  Here are a few pictures.

Isn't that an interesting tree on the left?  It was cut like that on purpose to make room for wires.

Miriam is taking a walk with her group to go to the kitchen to make ice-cream.  Miriam is in the front row, the girl with the blue apron and bonnet.

This plant has been planted next to the corn and pumpkin.  I have no idea what it is.  All the other plants like this had the blossoms removed.

Hard to see, but Miriam is eating her just finished ice-cream here.

She had her cat Wasi along and also some yarn spaghetti to feed her during our lunch break.

Then we stopped again and helped sewing the quilt.  Veronika and Miriam had worked on it during our last visit.  This time, Flora also helped.

Friday morning, the girls helped the museum staff to grind and sift some cornmeal.  The man in the background needed it that day to bake with it.  He was preparing the cottage for some over-night guests, who will spend the weekend to experience pioneer living.

Visting Miriam's class during parents' time: Each child had to get up and present a talk on something they had done or learned.  Here Miriam is describing how they built an air-castle and how they made ice-cream, as mentioned in Farmer Boy.

Here Charlotte is watching her children giving similar presentations.

And finally, we visited Jonathan and his group.  They also gave presentations for the parents.  You can see Jonathan watching his children.

His group also had learned several dances.  Here they are presenting one to the parents.  The dance teacher has asked Jonathan if he would like to join the museum's 19th century dance group.  She was delighted to find a young man that can dance so well.

    Lieben Gruß
    Sybille

P.S. Alles Gute zum 10. Geburtstag an Veronika!
    P.S.2:

  2. Veronika and Flora do look very hot and weary in the picture of them sitting on the bed in the German house!

These are such lovely pictures, Eva. What a wonderful summer adventure at the Village :) Happy Birthday to Veronika!

    1. Yes, they were exhausted and ready for lunch when I took that picture. I think it was the hottest day that week.

      Thanks for the birthday wishes.

  3. Just catching up! It was a paint the porch week for me last week and Dave and I were away Friday til today.

You must be really proud of your older three for taking part in a living history programme, there have a go attitude is precious.

I guess the house seemed strange without them. Happy Birthdsy to Vetonika and I cannot get over how grown up Flora is looking!! It only seems like yesterday when her and Pip were babies :-)

It is raining again here, this summer has been an epic fail :-(. We are on a back to school countdown and for me that too is an epic fail!

Sending you my love and best wishes

    1. Do you mean an outside porch? I did not know you had one. What did you paint? How was your trip away? What did you do with Pip and Benjamin?

They all had a good time and enjoyed their different roles very much. Especially Flora was kind of annoyed that she was "stuck" with Veronika. She loves to have Jonathan around.

Yes, I still remember blog entries about nursing . . . Those days are long past.

Not much rain here, just a thunder storm here or there. You should send all your rain to California. They need it so much! When does school start?

      Take care of yourself.

    2. The porch is a small section attached to the front of the house and is used to house the gas meter and coats. I used existing paint so it's a mish mash of colours!! Mainly cream and a muted grey.

The weekend away was good, I'll post pictures on the blog. Benedict stopped with Sara and Tom and Pip stopped with some friends and their two girls. It rained on the Friday and Saturday and then we had some sunshine for part of Sunday.

I am now stripping paint in the hallway and repainting. The house is desperate for a good overhaul, a bit like me :-)

      Xxx

    3. I see, you have to post pictures :). Your pictures of the weekend are lovely and funny! It was good you were able to get away. And you even had some sunshine and some trains. What more could you want :). Good luck with the hallway. Would you like to come over and paint our kitchen?
