Letters/Buchstaben

It's time for Veronika's first block with letters. We started with Grimm's fairy tale "Snow White and Rose Red." The bear led us to several verses and tongue twisters with B, like "A big black bee bit a big brown bear, the big brown bear bled blood" from Live Education's booklet From Imagination to Form: The Letters A to Z. We then were ready to write the letter into the air and practice it on paper. A picture of a bear completed the lesson, which lasted two days and at the beginning caused lots of tears because poor Veronika definitely has a perfectionist streak. She didn't like the bears she had drawn and we had to start over twice.

B. "A big black bee bit a big brown bear, the big brown bear bled blood" aus dem Heft From Imagination to Form: The Letters A to Z vorgestellt hat, damit wir auch wissen, wie er klingt.

For the letter M we read the fairy tale "The Raven." Our picture is from the story: the mountain "Stromberg." Again, tongue twisters and verses that teach the sound the letter makes were part of our lesson.

I have started Algebra with Charlotte, she is still finishing some of her stories for creative writing at the same time. Jonathan is studying for his first quarter exams in his main subjects. Miriam is almost done with the map of our town and we have reached Pohja in the Kalevala.  Flora was very eager to see what St. Nicholas had brought her this morning: a clementine, almonds, hazelnuts, and pecans.  The white horse of St. Nicholas had even eaten the oats the children had put out for him.  He left a little stuffed Christmas tree as surprise in the bowl.  Charlotte was practicing cantoring for the Mass for the feast day of the Immaculate Conception.  She will do the vigil Mass tomorrow, we as a family will go to church on Saturday to attend the Latin Mass.  The Christmas bazaar was wonderful.  We found a few birthday presents for the many December birthdays we have to remember.  Tonight I took the children to an Advent service.  There was lots of incense and Jonathan, for the first time, was helping helping Father with the humeral veil during the benediction.

The church windows were so pretty tonight, but my camera is not good enough to render a good shot.

  1. Beautiful, beautiful work Veronika! I too do not like making mistakes and have been known to unpick a sewn seam several times to get it "just right"

Hugs to you and your family.

    San xx

    1. When I come to think of it, I'm kind of like that too, but used to be also very choleric about things like that. I would throw my schoolbooks down if I didn't get something or if my work wasn't good enough in my eyes. I don't do that anymore, but still get still.

    1. Thank's, Dorina! She was very pleased about her third bear, so pleased that she included him in her nighttime prayers!

This Advent is so short, it's hard to really enjoy it. I feel kind of overwhelmed this year.
