GBBC

Since Friday we have been busy with the Great Backyard Bird Count.  We are not only counting birds, but using this opportunity to study some birds more in detail and also to do some nature games.

Before you can watch many birds at your feeder, you need to make suet.  Bevor man viele Vögel beobachten kann, braucht man gutes, selbstgmachtes Futter.

We then picked the chickadee to take a look at one bird in more detail.  The Burgess Bird Book for Children and  Handbook of Nature Study are great starting points for a closer encounter.  Of course, the chickadee also comes to our feeder.

To not forget what we had just learned, each child made a drawing of a chickadee and added some information about it.  Only Jonathan did not finish his.

Then it was game time, but not just about birds.  We picked the card game Wildlife of North America and learned a  lot.  There is a bird game by the same company, but we don't own it.  Take a look here.

Flora couldn't do all the activities and used some of the time to help me with ironing.

A nature walk with some of us (Jonathan walked Miriam to ballet and thus they had their own walk) was the end of the nature day.

A great read-aloud about birds is Birds Do the Strangest Things.

Ein schönes Vorlesebuch zum Vogelthema heißt Birds Do the Strangest Things.

To see some species that can be found in Missouri, go and visit Angela at her blog.

Angela sieht in Missouri beim Vögelzählen ganz andere Sorten.

You can count birds until Tuesday.  We intend to do it every day.

    1. I hope you will be doing better soon. It's a little chaotic here also because I need to think so hard about high school (due to some enrollment deadlines in case we want to enroll).

      All the best to you.

    2. P.S. Yes, I know that the contact to Dorina came through me. I think that's great: Now you have two friends from NY!
