Yard Sale/Flohmarkt

Mary: The Mother of JesusOur local fire department had their bi-annual yard sale today. So in the morning we combined ballet and baseball practice with looking at "treasures" at the yard sale. The whole village is always there and it's one of the big social events here.  We actually found some books for homeschooling including a biography of Marie Curie, Tomie de Paola's Mary, some of James Joyce's and Poe's literature, and Through the Looking Glass on tape.  Somebody also gave Veronika a sun hat.

  1. I love the flea markets and yard sales! So many treasures with interesting personal stories to them, at least if you find a good one. My daughter has a good eye for things. She has a very nice collection of doll house items(all found second hand) which she plays with every day. Last week she found some baskets and handcrafted wooden items from South America(where I used to live) which I love.

Nice book finds... and sun hat :)

  3. Alexandra, this is so true, but you really have to look carefully to sort all the junk from some true gems. Your daughter must have been so happy to have found the basekts and wooden items from South America. We sometimes see things like this too because there are many former missionaries in our community.

  5. I used to turn my nose up at them because they were everywhere when I was young - very touristy. Now I really like them. I appreciate the workmanship and the fact that many earn their living from these crafts.

  6. Oops, I meant to write "baskets." That's so true, once you see how much work and skill is involved you get more respectful of the end product.
