Chemistry and More/Chemie und mehr

Leo thought he should take part in our chemistry main lesson.
Leo wollte unbedingt bei Chemie mitmachen.

We are doing experiments from the Edible Chemistry Kit.  On Thursday, we learned about indicators.

We are also reading a biography of Marie Curie.

This Usborne book (paid link) is very helpful for understanding complicated topics.  Flora will do a "proper" chemistry book in grade 11, but for now, we are doing a month-long main lesson.

In the afternoon I worked at the library again while Flora had her dance classes.

Walk to the studio
Spaziergang zum Studio

Tired after 2 hours of dancing
Nach 2 Stunden Tanz ist man müde.

Today, I worked at this café while Flora had her first Nutcracker rehearsal.

Veronika and Peter arrived safely.
Veronika und Peter sind heile angekommen.

Today, they got Veronika's key and headed to Ikea to buy items she needs.

These pictures Charlotte sent from Denver.
Diese Fotos hat Charlotte aus Denver geschickt.

Miriam sent this picture of an old apple tree, maybe the oldest in NH.

And Jonathan is sitting in his airplane flying to Denmark and then to Lithuania.

When I am not getting messages and pictures from my children, I homeschool Flora, teach my German students (they had their first exam today), do some research on washing-machines, go to the laundromat, cook, clean, and drive to ballet.  Our technician also got back to me about the price for replacing four knobs on our stove because they are falling off: He told me that each knob is about 80 dollars!  I think they are not worth that price.  I had some nice chat with our mailman about his health (one of his legs was in a brace) and another chat with the Hebrew professor on campus.  Veronika took his classes and he was asking about her.

Flora and I want to go to a concert tomorrow evening, and on Sunday afternoon I will drive her to a birthday party close to Rochester.  So there is never a dull moment here.  She also got a letter from each of her siblings today: They all wrote something nice to her because she is all on her own now, with no siblings to keep her company.  Those letters made her very happy.

  1. Fun chemistry experiments! Also, I remember when Xena would like across Chanda's workbooks just like Leo. Denver is very pretty and Miriam's photo of the ancient apple tree is beautiful and wonderfully moody.

    1. Maybe they think they can get our attention by doing this? Yes, that apple tree looked very much like autumn, I thought. Denver has some nice spots, doesn't it?

  2. Hello again :) Welcome to Nutcracker time! What role(s) will Flora be dancing? Your cafe looked cozy. The children were so thoughtful to write her. Sending you both a big hug and you'll have to share about the concert if you go. xoxoxo

    1. Flora is dancing the Maid part, Tea, Flowers, and Snow. It is a cute café with local products. The coffee was very good. Yes, it was a combined project of all her siblings. They also gave her a stuffed animal, a sloth! You know what, we never made it to the concert because I had written down the wrong date! The concert was on the Friday when we had Nutcracker rehearsal. I thought it was going to be on Saturday. Flora and I were all dressed up and went to the recital hall, but there was nobody there. We then discovered that we got the dates mixed up. It would have been a classical guitar concert.

  3. Those knobs for the oven are a crazy price! You are definitely busy with all your work responsibilities, the house and flying solo whilst Peter is away. Reading about those letters for Flora touched my heart, such a loving and thoughtful act 💕. Please give Flora a big hug from me and guess what, there is actually a post on my long neglected blog!!! Xx

    1. I found some similar ones much cheaper. They fit our stove and I bought those. I guess buying replacement parts from Samsung directly is not the way to do this. Yes, it was very exhausting without Peter and without a washing-machine. Peter is back, but we still have to get a new washer. I will give Flora a hug. Especially at night, she is sad because nobody else is sleeping upstairs now. Even Leo does not always sleep on her bed. I will take a look at your blog!

    1. Thanks so much, Linda! We are almost neighbors. I have wonderful memories of Montreal. I visited once in 1987 with my father and then again on my own in 1993, I believe. It is a beautiful city!
