We were invited for dinner tonight so it got kind of late. The children had a good time playing with other children and the adults had some pleasant conversations. This morning we went to church to remember St. Andrew. We found some great new books at the library afterwards. We've finished Jonathan's astronomy block and are moving on to English writing. We've been reading a passage from "Moby Dick" and Jonathan wrote an essay about it. Charlotte finished her first math/geometry block: We learned about Eratosthenes and how he measured the earth from The Librarian Who Measured the Earth
. Charlotte documented our findings into her main lesson book.
Miriam has been playing squirrel and finding acorns and chestnuts. She bagged them in bags (10 in each) and tallied them up using column addition.
Veronika and Flora have been reading books to each other and also to their dolls and stuffed animals. Veronika also build a little manikin. Today we read Flora's Very Windy Day. 
Julius is just taking it easy and apparently likes our library books.
Heute abend waren wir zum Essen eingeladen. Die Kinder haben schön miteinander gespielt und die Eltern haben sich angeregt unterhalten. Am Morgen haben an wir den heiligen Andreas in der Frühmesse gedacht. In der Bücherei anschließend gab es wieder neue Bücher, u.a. ein Buch über Flora und den Wind: Flora's Very Windy Day
. Zu Hause hat Jonathan eine Passage von Moby Dick zum zweiten Mal gelesen. Wir haben eine neue Hauptepoche angefangen: Englischen Aufsatz. Wir lesen ausgewählte Stücke aus der englischen Weltliteratur und versuchen daran unsere schriftliche Ausdrucksfähigkeit zu verbessern. Charlotte hat ihre letzte Stunde zu Geometrie I heute gehabt. Es ging um Eratosthenes und seine Berechnungen des Erdumfanges mit Hilfe des Buches The Librarian Who Measured the Earth. Miriam hat viele Katanien und Eicheln für den Wintervorrat des Eichhörnchens gesucht. Sie packt immer zehn in ein Säckchen und übt an der Tafel und im Heft damit schriftliches Addieren. Veronika und Flora lesen sich im Moment gerne vor. Manchmal hören auch die Puppen und Stofftiere zu. Veronika hat auch ein kleines Männchen gebaut. Julius genießt ein trockenes Plätzchen hier zu Hause inmitten unserer Büchereibücher. (Draußten gießt es in Strömen). 
We've actually done some Math this week!! Benedict of his own accord has actually mastered the concept of counting on. a big break through for him!

Julius looks to be a real character, we used to have a Tom that rattled a letterbox when he wanted to come in!!
