On Sunday afternoon, we visited one more artist, a potter.

It was a windy day, in fact, a big tree came down in our neighbor's yard . This afternoon (Monday), the electric company came to remove wires that had fallen onto the street due to the fallen tree.
Es war ein sehr windiger Tag. Ein großer Baum beim Nachbarhaus ist umgeblasen worden und hat die Stromleitungen mitgenommen. Heute nachmittag (Montag) waren dann Reparaturwagen hier, die die Kabel von der Straße geräumt haben.

Er war sehr lecker.
Ich habe auch mit meiner Schwester über die Gesundheit meines Vaters am Sonntag telefoniert. Heute morgen (Montag) gab es gute Nachrichten: Mein Vater liegt nicht mehr auf der Intensivstation. Er hat Familienmitglieder erkannt und kann alleine atmen. Nur das Sprechen klappt noch nicht so ganz richtig. Aber er hat keine Gehirnschäden.
All girls are gone again. Miriam is back in New Hampshire, and Flora and Charlotte are both in Denver. Flora is visiting her sister for a while.
Alle Mädchen sind wieder weg. Miriam ist wieder in New Hampshire, und Flora und Charlotte sind beide in Denver. Flora besucht dort ihre Schwester.

We were without electricity and internet for most of the evening and night (Monday to Tuesday), but now all is back up running.
Wir hatten während des Abends und der Nacht (Montag auf Dienstag) keinen Strom und kein Internet, aber jetzt scheint es wieder zu gehen.
And Jonathan bought himself a pumpkin at the local farmer's market.
Und Jonathan hat sich einen Kürbis auf dem Bauernmarkt gekauft.
Eva, I'm so sorry to read about your Dad, I was away helping my Mum who had surgery on Monday to remove a lump in her throat. I'm glad to read that he is out of intensive care but I will most definitely keep him in my prayers, what a worry for you all.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to read that Flora is spending some time with Charlotte in Denver, it will do her good to spend some time with her and be a welcome distraction from any worries regarding your Dad.

It was a huge shock! He has always held up quite well. He will transition to a rehabilitation clinic soon, but they are not sure which one yet. And we are not sure what will happen after that. Charlotte saved the money to invite Flora for a little over a week. They are having a grand time and it is true, this is better for than worrying about her grandfather. She does worry a lot about things like that.
DeleteOh, that surgery does not sound so pleasant. How is your mother doing by now? Thanks so much for your prayers. The girls have mobilized their friends as well to pray for my father. I am pretty sure that has something to do with his rapid improvement.
Hello Eva, I second San's thoughts and am glad your dad is recognizing his loved ones. I hope as he recovers that words come more easily and he gains strength. I'll keep him in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteI have lovely memories of visiting with my sister at her college and at her home when she moved out. I'm sure Flora will enjoy her time in CO.
He has managed to say sentences, just certain words are not always there when he needs them. Thanks so much for your prayers. I think Flora is having a good time in Denver. She sends a report every night with pictures. Those reports are too sweet!
DeleteKate Davies, the knitwear designer who took the photo of the robin, recovered from a stroke she had in her late 30's. She wrote about how difficult it was to find her words again, and her physical movement. She also shared that many said she could not recover, but she persevered and is doing almost everything again. It took a good while. She had to be patient and persistent.
DeleteI have some old emails and some photos from Morgana and Chanda when they traveled without me in their late teens and early 20's. I also remember Chanda filling out a journal I made for her when she stayed in Richmond in the UK for two weeks for a ballet camp. I should ask her if she still has it. I wrote down things to do on specific days, such as: record your morning dream, draw a flower you see outside, what dogs did you observe this week? etc. . .
It is quite unusual to have a stroke at that age. I think our pediatrician had a heart attack at that age and also recovered. I think being patient and consistent is key. I hope the rehab place will do him good.
DeleteI remember when Chanda was in Richmond :) What a neat idea you had. It might have taken away the feeling of loneliness. Flora has quite a bit alone time at Charlotte's apartment because Charlotte is at work, but she has been content. She took along some books, and the neighbor's cat Bean comes for visits.
