Music Appreciation/Musikerziehung

While working on my planning of music appreciation for next school year, I have been consulting the used book How to Teach Children to Know Music.  This book has listening programs for kindergarten age, grades 1-3, 4-6, Junior High, and High School.  Many of the records--yes, it lists records!--are of course outdated, but the pieces can be still found today.  It lists not only classical music, but also folk songs, hymns, opera music, and "modern music," i.e. mostly jazz.  There are book suggestions for books that are still available today.  One of these is How Music Grew, a lovely book of music history for high school students or slightly younger ones.  We really like Simply Charlotte Mason's and Laura Berquist's ideas for music appreciation, but adding some of the ideas found in the book above will enrich our curriculum.

Bei meinen Planungen für Musikstudien für unser nächstes Schuljahr habe ich das englische Buch How to Teach Children to Know Music näher angeschaut und einige Ideen daraus benutzt.  Es ist ein altes Buch, doch kann man vieles noch gut gebrauchen.  Es hat Musikvorschläge für Vorschulkinder, 1.-3. Klasse, 4.-6. Klasse, 7.-8. Klasse und die Oberschule.  Die Stücke die vorgeschlagen werden, befinden sich auf Schallplatten, ja, so alt ist das Buch, aber natürlich kann man die gleiche Musik auch heute auf CDs finden, Das Buch beschäftigt sich nicht nur mit klassischer Musik, sondern auch mit Volksliedern, Kirchenliedern, Opern und moderner Musik, womit meist Jazzmusik gemeint ist.  Außerdem findet man auch eine Lektüreliste für verschiedene Altersstufen.  Einige dieser Bücher habe ich in unserem Büchereisystem gefunden.  Darunter war das Buch How Music Grew, eine wunderbare Einführung in die Musikgeschichte für Oberschüler.  Wir mögen sehr die Musikideen von Simply Charlotte Mason und Laura Berquist, aber mein neuer Fund wird diese Auswahl noch bereichern.
