We were looking for red oaks here.

  1. We have two white oaks in our courtyard . . and you found the perfect acorns for your nature table, or did you leave them in the field for the squirrels?

    1. No, there are so many acorns around that I think the squirrels can spare some. On our children's news we heard about the interesting link between the abundance of acorns and the growth of tick populations: If there are many acorns, about two years later there will be many ticks because the squirrels and other small rodents that eat the acorns are healthier and multiply more. That means more hosts for ticks!

    2. P.S. Do you also have red or black oak trees?

    3. And that's interesting about the amount of acorns and the amount of ticks.

    4. I thought so too! So I guess we have to look out for more ticks in a few years.

  2. I think black and white are quite common.
