May Bug/Maikäfer

Just after Veronika and I had finished Peter and Anneli's Journey to the Moon, a story about two children and their adventures with a May Bug, we found one in front of our door.  That was very exciting and each child took turns holding the beetle before it flew away.  (If you haven't read the book, go out and get yourself a copy, it's truly magical).

Bit by bit other relatives are arriving for the First Holy Communion.  My grandfather's cousin arrived yesterday and had some wonderful books for us.  I hope I'll be able to list a few of them soon.  Jonathan got a new bird guide on birds of Europe.

Jonathan and "Aunt" L./Jonathan und "Tante" L.

Oma has lots of neat new books in her house, some are even in English (surprise!), but mostly all children go for the German books.

The apple trees are blooming and look beautiful right out of the window of my old bedroom.

Flora has had plenty of time to play with Wasi.  Here she is feeding her.

Fahren da wirklich so viele Züge?

  2. Being bilingual must be such a gift. Our apple blossom is also out, the trees look like a bride!

    1. I'm so glad I decided to speak only German to my children. Now it's really paying off, they can play with their cousins and talk to them easily. Their German is not perfect, but it's amazing how much my strategy has allowed them to have a good vocabulary. I do hope they will never give up their second language.

  3. Du schläfst in deinem alten Zimmer? Das muss schön und speziell sein!
    Unsere Apfelbäume blühen auch.
    Wann ist die Erstkommunion?

  4. Germany is so beautiful, Eva!!!! Your May bug pictures are lovely :) Thanks for posting about the book. I have not heard of this story and look forward to reading it. Also, I'd love to hear about some of the different birds Jonathan is seeing, and what ones are the same?!

I've had difficulty finding time to post lately. I've been trying to go on "duolingo" each day for a German lesson (!!!) and also do body stretches and exercises for my eyes each day. And, of course, the school lessons, afternoon activities, dance performances, cooking, housework, etc.! In addition, we've had to take extra care of Xena by giving her fluids. She's doing well, though much slower these days. My Dad is doing well also. They're shortening his treatment. This is his last week. We're all very pleased about this.

Enjoy family and beautiful Deutschland. Have a wonderful first communion celebration. Hugs from all of us.

    1. It is, we saw quite a bit of it while taking the train down to Austria, those are all train routes I used to take a lot. Kind of strange to do this with my children now!

I'll post about the birds. He has seen more than 40 new ones so far. He is very excited.

Your new German endeavors sound impressive! I wish you could be here and practice German in real life.

I can't post very much either and I can't really read blogs right now because I don't have a computer. This is Peter's notebook.

I do hope that Xena is doing better. We got some great pictures of Julius today. He is with two ladies that love cats. Unfortunately, he can't go outside, but the ladies are so good with him.

That's great news about your Dad!! I'm so glad. Will he have to have regular check-ups?

Thanks for your hugs. We are sending ours from Austria! Love to all!

  5. Finally I'm managing to catch up with you!! We've had Kath and Gracie stopping with us this past week and through the chaos and tiredness, I have only just realised that you are in fact in Germany!!! Doh!!

Dave reckons you must have flown over our house since he's convinced that we are on the New york flight path!! You'll have to give us a wave on your return journey, assuming you are not home already!

    Much love to you

    San and co xxxx

    1. We must have flown over your part of the country. I remember a map on the plane that showed your area: I pointed that out to Jonathan :)!

I will wave to you when we fly back, I pomise! Too bad I can't just stop for tea.
