Christmas Break Drawing to a Close/Weihnachtsferien nähern sich dem Ende

Our Christmas break is drawing to a close.  We all had a relaxing time with good food, some friends visiting, lots of playing in the snow, and good books.  Jonathan and Charlotte were even allowed to watch three Astrid Lindgren DVDs!  We don't watch many DVDs (we don't have a TV), and if it is a DVD that is based on a book, they have to read the book first.  So the three Astrid Lindgren stories they watched were Pippi Longstocking, Karlson on the Roof, and The Six Bullerby Children.  I had some time to do some reading that was not homeschool related!  I finished a book by Ludwig Tieck and am now reading Jurnjakob Swehn der Amerikafahrer, which has been translated into English as Letters of a German American Farmer: Jürnjakob Swehn Travels to America.  For anybody interested in German immigrants to this country around the year 1868 this is a very informative book.

Es zogen drei Könige. Geschichten zur Dreikönigszeit.Today all the children cleaned out their learning boxes and sharpened their colored pencils.  I'm filling in their weekly lesson planners and am making notes for my main lessons.  Tomorrow we will take down our Christmas tree, but we'll keep the spirit of Christmas alive by continuing our reading of Epiphany stories.  Right now we are enjoying the German book Es zogen drei Könige.  Wishing you a wonderful Sunday.

  2. Hope your first week back goes well! I think I have a slightly reluctant student in my midst!! As with all things in life he'll just have to get on with it!! Having said this we have various hospital appointments this week, so we'll break ourselves in gradually.

Once again many thanks for all your support and encouragement.

    Blessings San x

  5. Thanks for the compliment about being so organized. I'm always amazed about how much knitting you get done. I never seem to have enough time for handwork or mending or ironing. All the best to you and your daughters for a fresh start this year also!
