Quebec is so pretty! Montreal is pretty nice, but especially Quebec City. You would love it! You are right about the Alliance Francaise, but they seem to be much more about imparting knowledge (for a fee) about the right way to speak French, a national passion. We shall make a trip to Quebec! (And I will be gracious and look into the Alliance...but it is a 4-hr drive from here.) Thanks!A Homeschool Storyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07601636901131690015noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-287923374500556606.post-15299840400702661032015-09-23T00:17:07.646-04:002015-09-23T00:17:07.646-04:00You know, I think you have to go to Quebec to get ...You know, I think you have to go to Quebec to get the same experience. There is also a large French community in Alberta and British Columbia that is proud of their heritage. Rochester did celebrate "Bastille Day" in July by the way. Maybe because it is close to Canada?

There is an Alliance Française in the U.S. Even Iowa has its own chapter:

Alliance Française de Central Iowa
Présidence : Mme Parady Boatwright
4425 Mills Civic Parkway, # 1406
West Des Moines, Iowa 50265
Tél. 515-822-9051
paradysboatwright@yahoo.com

Sometimes places that have a French consulate do offer more cultural events. But maybe French people do not have the same sense of community as Greek and German people do. Just as you pointed out. Those horns do come apart. I was wondering the same thing: How do you store them. Peter found out that a cheap costs about 1500 dollars, but many of them cost 5000 dollars!

I am not sure if that dress from you a not. I will ask Veronika.

The one Miriam and Veronika tried (the heart) was difficult. I helped a bit with Flora's cat. That was not too bad, but she could not do it all by herself.

Yes, they were all quite tired when we finally got home. Your children are simply lovely, it is a pleasure to see them grow. How fun that you can be involved in cultural events from their own heritage. My husband and I were commenting, while having a great time at the Greek Fest this weekend, how the French did not do this thing in foreign lands. There is no greater community or smaller communities of French, they tend to hide from each other rather than assemble. I wonder if I could import a few horned cows and a bull or two and organize something...or perhaps there is a reason we don't try to duplicate French festivals.
