Sunday: Zoo/Sonntag: Zoo

We had planned an afternoon at the beach, but since the weather was not so nice we decided to first go to the zoo after church and then to the beach.

Peter went back to "The Huntington" today to buy one last thing at the gift store.  He has made friends with the young man in the gift store and had told him on Saturday that he was not coming back.  What a surprise to see each other again today :).  Peter also went into the coffee shop to get a cup of coffee.  When the lady in the shop rang up his drink, she said, "Staff, right?"  She had recognized him and thought he was working there :).  I guess that is a sign that we have to come back one day.  There are research scholarships available at the library there . . . .

We are just cleaning and packing and packing and cleaning.  Peter said good-bye to Biola today.

  1. Did you think you would like California so much? And I think the sea calls to you :)

The little Homo Sapien in the blue dress is very cute, especially with her little owl friend in the blue bag. :) And was that Veronika looking out at the view with her doll? I miss those days when the girls took their dolls with them everywhere!

The animal pics at the zoo are very good. The Koala is sweet. I wonder if people can still hold them when visiting in Australia? I remember hearing stories about that awhile ago . . ! They do look cuddly, but they probably aren't . .

the sea the sea the beautiful sea the blue the fresh the ever free!

Yes, you may have to come back :) Peter can see if they still recognize him when you do :)

    1. No, I never thought I would. My last impression in 1986 was not as favorable. And I still think there are too many people and cars here, but you can find nice places where you don't notice that so much. I love the ocean, I always did and I love swimming. Must be my sign of the zodiac.

The very sad thing about this owl friend was that she lost it in the zoo and we have not been able to find it again. We called on Monday, but they had not found it. It was a souvenir from here that Peter had bought for her. So he went to The Huntington to buy her a new one. She kept asking what her owl was doing at the zoo now (after she had lost it) and we assured her that this was the best place to lose something because all the people there know how to take care of animals.

No, that is Miriam. My mom repaired Miriam's doll and made Miriam very happy. She only needs new hair now, but that is my job. But Veronika had her doll along as well.

I tried to take pictures of unusual animals. I also took one of a wombat, but it turned out to be too blurry. The wombats were in a house that was completely dark and you could not use flash. Jonathan loves those Australian animals, he was very excited to see them. I don't know if Koalas are cuddly, but they surely look like they would be.

I wonder if they would, but you never know. He must have made a big impression at The Huntington.

    2. Oh the agony of losing these little stuffed friends! I remember walking block after block in Brooklyn looking for a tiny Rumpelstiltskin doll that Morgana had dropped. We also lost another tiny animal doll in a big overgrown planter at a local music school. And then there are the stuffed animals that I see all the time here in the city . . people find them on the ground and pick them up and sit them on walls and signposts and iron railings . . little lost friends. Oh my. You'll have to make up some fun adventures that little owl has at the zoo!

I thought it might be Miriam but wasn't sure if she would still carry her doll with her . . but then Morgana certainly did . . :)

Oh!! I skyped with Morgana today and had the pleasure of listening to her converse with some of the family members she is staying with in German while she was talking to me! She does very well!

    3. Did you ever find Morgana's doll? Miriam loves her doll so much that she had not been able to be without her. Veronika takes hers sometimes, but the older ones only sleep with theirs. Flora still is waiting for me to make one for her. This summer, I hope. It is her birthday on Friday, she will be 7!!

I am so glad that Morgana's German has made such great progress. What a great accomplishment. Now she has to teach you :). I have to get back to cleaning here, there is still some work to be done. I glimpsed at your blog and noticed many new entries, including ocean pictures. Flora was very confused that there is an ocean close to New York. She wanted to know if those waves on your blog were real waves like the waves here. So funny! I hope to write more later, but I have to get those floors clean.
