Acoustics and Exclamations/Akustik und Ausrufe

Somehow I do not feel organized enough to write a coherent blog post these days.  Time goes by so quickly, there never seems a quiet moment to think and blog about what we are doing.  I found two pictures on my camera that show that Miriam is doing acoustics and Veronika is working on grammar right now.  Miriam has been trying different instruments around the house and she also listened to Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra.  Miriam is also learning about the Greek myths and we are reading Pedraic Colum's Children's Homer.  Below you can see her trying a wooden flute.  I showed her later that you need to point the flute in the opposite direction :).

Veronika is learning about the different types of sentences, the last one she did was exclamation.  We are combining this with our Old Testament studies.  We looked through the Psalms to find passages with exclamations.  The ones that appealed to her were copied into her main lesson book.

We did go to the zoo a few days ago, I hope to post some pictures later.

  1. You are a lot more organized than me. Benjamin Britten's "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" is fabulous. I didn't realize that it was on youtube. I look forward to hopefully seeing your zoo photos.

    1. Really? I always think I still have so much to learn and get so much better at this. There is so much great stuff on YouTube. I use it a lot, especially for my college students. I will post the zoo photos soon. I still have to take a look at them myself :).

    2. Sorry, I have never managed to upload pictures of that zoo visit. They are still on my camera, though. I need to make a mental note so I don't forget them.

  4. I don't mind how the blog posts appear! They are a window on what is happening in the family and they are much appreciated xx

    1. Are you really serious? Sometimes I don't think I have anything interesting to say and just feel stressed out. And I do write about bad days, but sometimes I think that those muddled posts are not very helpful or interesting to people. So I try to come up with some interesting tidbits. But a blog is supposed to be like a diary and a diary also has "not so perfect entries." So I guess you are right, I should not mind if my entries are not perfect :).

    2. 'tis true! i often feel that my posts can be very mundane and boring . . it is nice to find some interesting tidbits . . i like digging deep for them . . sometimes we have to dig deep! i've found that when looking back things weren't as chaotic or inane as i remembered and i'm always glad that i posted. i guess time smooths the rough edges. your work this week sounds interesting and fun and veronika's handwriting is very nice. i also like her braids and the teapot by her work :)

    3. I guess it is the perennial question of why do you write a blog. Is it solely for providing content and information or is it a way of connecting with others amidst the ordinariness of everyday life. When you share links or book recommendations I always check them out but I equally enjoy the little snap shots too - my chance to sit and have a cup of tea with you :-) x

    4. Funny that you notice all these details, braids, teapot, handwriting. So those things must be important after all! Yes, sometimes we need deep digging, but sometimes I am too tired to really think about the day. Then it is better to take a break and post a day later. Sometimes the gems are on the surface and digging is not necessary.
