Charles Dickens

We are still reading Nicholas Nickleby (it is a very long book, remember), but I thought I would share three delightful children's books about Dickens.  The first one is Charles Dickens: The Man Who Had Great Expectations,  the second one is Charles Dickens: England's Most Captivating Storyteller, a book with many little claps and "realia" inside, e.g., pictures of book covers, newspaper articles, letters to open, topics to explore (industry, orphans, theater, etc.), and much more, and the last one (I have mentioned it here before) is A Boy Called Dickens.  Each is different and they complement each other nicely.  So if you ever happen to read books by Dickens with your family, find these books at the library.  They make Dickens' world come truly alive!

  1. Eva,

We love Charles Dickens' novels, and the mini-series adaptations, but we've never read about Charles Dickens himself. I'll watch out for the books you mentioned. Thank you!

    1. I haven't watched any Dickens with the children, I always have them read a book before they are allowed to watch it, but I love to "set the scene" when reading a book. Those three books are not only fun to read, but also pretty. I found them at the library. I have to check out the mini-series when we are done with a few more Dickens books. Thanks for mentioning those.
