Oh Canada, Our Home and Native Land, ...

No, we didn't sing the national anthem when we crossed the border, but enjoyed our ride through Ontario.

A new Canadian 20 dollar bill: Do you notice the see-through part?  Quite neat!
Eine neue 20 Dollar kanadische Banknote.  Man kann hindurchgucken!  Das fand ich ganz schick.

Feeling very European again: not miles, but kilometers!

Can you guess what this is?  Tobacco.  We drove through the Ontario tobacco belt.
Was wächst da wohl?  Tabak.

Hier sieht man moderne Trockenschuppen.  Die altmodischen Schuppen kann man hier sehen.

Wir haben bei der Ernte zugeschaut.  Hier kann man mehr darüber erfahren.

I thought this looked like modern art.
Diese Strommasten sahen wie moderne Kunst aus.

In Canada, you can find always chances to practice your French.

We arrived too late to see any ships go through the locks, but if you have time, here is a video to watch.

  3. So happy to see that you came by to visit my Home and Native Land, Eva. Love it! Yes, km have been around since I was a kid. They never taught us the imperial system in school. I still don't get it. The money here is very different than American money. I like that each bill is a different color, just like in Germany. It is easier to teach, too.

The pictures are beautiful. I haven't been to that part of the country as of yet.

    1. You know, I lived in Canada from 1986 to 1987, in Merritt, BC. I was a Rotary Club exchange student then. I traveled a lot, going down the West Coast of the U.S., all the way to Mexico, but also explored Vancouver Island, got as far north Prince George, went to Alberta (Banff, Jasper, etc.), and also drove through Ontario all the way out to Quebec. I still want to get to PEI one day. Nova Scotia or New Brunswick would also not be bad.

The money has changed a bit, though. It looked different in 1986, colorful, but not as fancy as it is now. I always thought that the Canadian stamps and bills were prettier than the American ones.
