Linden Tree/Linde

On St. John's Day we read about a legend in which Jesus asks the linden tree to save his flowers until St. John's birthday.  St. John needs the tree for his bees because all the farmers are already making hay so that there are not enough flowers from the meadows left for the bees to visit.  The bees are so important to him because one of his main food sources is honey.  So after reading the story we went to look at the only linden tree we know of in this area.  And sure enough, the flowers are slowly opening.

During our farm visit today (remember, we always visit our farm on Tuesdays), we took a closer look at a rabbit and the horses.

Beets and potatoes/Rote Beete und Kartoffeln

Now it is VERY late and we need to sleep.  We love our Tuesdays (early Mass, library, independent learning, farm, and grocery shopping), but it's a very tiring day and involves lots of driving.  Good night!

Gute Nacht!

    1. Yes, I did, I hope you did too :)!

Charlotte would love to take horseback riding lessons, but the local equestrian center (part of the college) is quite expensive. So I'm still looking for someone with a horse. I know that some people in one of our homeschooling group have horses, but I haven't asked them yet.

The St. John's story can be found in the German version of the book "Festivals with Children" by Brigitte Barz, but I don't know if this story is also in the English version.

    1. Wie schön! Das duftet wirklich stark. Hier sind Linden ja eher selten.
