Handwork Progress/Fortschritte beim Handarbeiten

After taking a summer break for handwork, we picked our lessons up again. Jonathan has almost finished crocheting his hen, Charlotte is practicing knitting in the round (her real project will be knitting socks), and Miriam is working on knitted ears for her pig.

  1. Very nice handwork! What is your favorite book for teaching knitting/crocheting? I would love to know your preference! My kindergarterner will start sewing this year, but knitting is something I have always wanted to learn and would especially love to learn WITH her. Alecia

  2. Before listing some books I need to know if you want to learn the American way or the European way for knitting. The European way is easier! I wouldn't attempt knitting until first grade, followed by crocheting in second grade. Kindergarten is a great time to learn weaving and finger knitting (which is actually finger crocheting).

  3. hello eva, it's nice to see you picking up your handwork again. everyone is doing so well! we have a wallet project from a past crafting group that we need to finish. sometimes finding time to sit and sew or knit can be difficult . . because we would like to do it all day but only have an hour or so with all the other things that must be accomplished, and classes that must be run off to . . good luck with it. let us know how it goes.

  4. That's so true about the time. We always do our handwork in the evenings, but sometimes I'm simply too tired to concentrate much on things like that. However, once you get started it's hard to stop because you are finally making progress. I will post pictures of the finished projects.

  5. Dear Eva,
Apologies for replying so late. Unfortunately, I rarely have time to visit other blogs! I always love what you post! The European way, I think. I have seen some books in Dover, but money being what it is, I prefer to have a recommendation. My daughter and son just started quilting and the LOVE it! I agree this seems to be a good time to introduce knitting as well. They keep talking about making clothes for themselves! Thanks again, Alecia

  6. I'll send you an e-mail with the books. Maybe your local library has a few of them. Mine does.

I know about time and blogging. Blogs are like big time eating monsters sometimes!
