Picture Books/Bilderbücher

So Sleepy StorySir Cumference and the Isle of Immeter (Math Adventures)The Months: Fun With Friends All Year 'Round (Read Me a Poem)It was much colder today, but still sunny.  Everything is really getting green now, although the storm last night uprooted a huge pine tree close to the village church.  Jonathan and Charlotte got all the news on the storm during their nursing home visit this afternoon.  Again, they played their recorders for the people there and talked to them.  Other than that we continued our studies.  Three really nice picture books we read today were The Months, an illustration of Sara Coleridge's poem, the one Miriam is using for her calendar; Sir Cumference and the Isle of Immeter, another math adventure for Charlotte; and a good night book for the little ones, So Sleepy Story by Uri Shulevitz.  It is about a sleepy house and what happens when music drifts in through a window.  The author was inspired by Lyonel Feininger.  I was reminded of my great-grandfather, who lived with us when I was a little girl.  He would tell us stories about what our furniture said after everybody had gone to bed.

Flora asked me to make a "photing" of her.  Here it is:

  1. Lustiges Wort! I wollte sich gleich Floras Foto anschauen.

  4. You must feel relieved after the "heat wave." Our April has been really bizarre this year. I haven't put away our winter clothes because we sometimes get snow as late as May. I wouldn't be surprised if it got quite cold again.

Yes, the nursing home visit is part of one of our homeschooling groups, but only a few families/children go. The nursing home is just up the hill, Jonathan and Charlotte go by themselves and meet with the other participants. It's the same nursing home they go to on Wednesdays to assist Father D. at Mass. It's a small nursing home and so they've gotten to know the people there quite well.
