Autumn/Herbst

Looking in/Zum Fenster reingeguckt

Yellow the bracken,

Golden the sheaves,

Rosy the apples,

Crimson the leaves;

Mist on the hillside,

Clouds grey and white.

Autumn, good morning!

Summer, good night!   (Florence Hoatson)

It's Fall (Celebrate the Seasons)This is one of the "Welcome Autumn" songs we sang today. We also read the picture book It's Fall (Celebrate the Seasons).

Veronika tried some leaf rubbings this morning.  She was delighted with the process.  Now she is outside, making some bark rubbings.

Miriam read about weather sayings.  We chose one and made a picture for it.

Later she helped me grate zucchini.

A Tree Is GrowingCharlotte finished her picture of a locust seed development.  We also read about trees.  One particularly nice book on that topic is A Tree Is Growing

Jonathan studied Numa Pompilius and his introduction of the God Janus to the Romans.  He drew a picture of Janus and of things he saw in the past and would see in the future.

  4. Hello Dorina, I've used "Handbook of Nature Study." I first tried it by myself, but soon got lost in the wealth of information. Then I discovered Barb's Blog:
    Handbook of Nature Study. It's such a great help to choose what to do with the book. When we do our nature walks, I normally use some ideas from Barb and the "Handbook of Nature Study." If you are not sure whether you would like it, you could print out free chapters from here and use them with Barb's ideas.
